Billy Porter is a Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning, actor, singer, director, composer. He won a Tony Award in 2013 for originating the role of “Lola" in Broadway’s Kinky Boots, and his electric portrayal of “Pray Tell” in Pose earned him a 2020 Golden Globe nomination and a Critics’ Choice Award nomination. He also recently starred in the eighth season of Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed American Horror Story: Apocalypse as “Behold Chablis.”
Billy joins us to discuss his
career, his experience as a black queer man in entertainment, and
his role on the acclaimed series Pose. Co-created by Ryan Murphy,
Pose is a drama spotlighting the legends, icons and ferocious house
mothers of New York’s underground ball culture, a movement that
first gained notice in the late 1980s. Making television history,
Pose features the largest cast of transgender actors in series
regular roles. The Golden Globe-nominated and Emmy-nominated drama
also features the largest recurring cast of LGBTQ actors ever for a
scripted series.
